Uniting for Change: The Power of the Collective Impact Initiative in Northern New Mexico

Faith Maxwell, Collective Impact Director- United Way of Northern New Mexico

In Northern New Mexico, nonprofits are coming together in an unprecedented effort to tackle pressing issues such as substance abuse, violence, and limited access to physical and mental health services. Leading this charge is the United Way of Northern New Mexico (UWNNM) through its transformative initiative, Collective Impact. This network of community members, organizations, and institutions is dedicated to advancing equity and driving sustainable change in Rio Arriba and Los Alamos counties by learning together, aligning their actions, and working collaboratively to achieve population and systems change.

A grant from Triad National Security has enabled UWNNM work on collective impact in northern New Mexico. UWNNM is taking a two pronged approach to begin its collective impact.

Strengthen Local Nonprofits

In a collaborative environment, UWNNM, is consistently bringing nonprofits together to plan to efficiently work together around the root causes of challenges the region faces. “Risk-taking behaviors among youth, the substance abuse epidemic, and access to behavioral health services are among the most pressing needs we are facing” said Faith Maxwell, Collective Impact Director. “We are not only talking about these issues, we are bringing in training and resources to our nonprofits to be better prepared to implement concentrated, focused services by multiple agencies.”

Empowering Youth Leaders

“Imagine a future where every young person feels empowered to help shape their community for the better. That's our vision!” said Maxwell. Through youth leadership programs, UWNNM brings training and skill-building opportunities that are intended to ignite the spark of leadership in community youth, giving them the tools and confidence to drive positive change. Maxwell continues, “Additionally, we support initiatives that promote their mental and physical well-being, ensuring they thrive in every aspect of life. By empowering young leaders, we are investing in a brighter, more resilient future for our community.”

Be a part of the collective impact

“Now, more than ever, we need the collective strength of our community to drive meaningful change. We invite you to be part of this transformative journey. Whether through volunteering, donating, or partnering with us, your involvement can make a significant difference. Together, we can create a healthier, safer, and more vibrant Northern New Mexico. Let's unite for change and build a future where everyone can thrive.”
