Court Appointed Special Advocates – CASA

Contact: lynne@casafisrt.org

On-going Volunteer Opportunities:

Please consider helping to change the life of an abused and neglected child in your community.
Casa, FJD is seeking community members from diverse backgrounds who want to become volunteer advocates for abused and neglected children whose cases are making their way through the court system. CASA volunteers become the eyes and ears of the court, gathering information and interviewing everyone in that child’s life, making sure they receive rehabilitative services, medical care and educational assistance, and making reports that will allow the court to better understand each foster child’s situation.
Join our October training class and help ensure that foster children do not fall through the cracks of overburdened systems and that these vulnerable children are in a safe home, get their needs met and have hope for a brighter future.

Training Available: Serving as a CASA advocate is a demanding task that requires completing a 30 hour training, monthly ongoing education on issues of child maltreatment, ability to visit each child, and a monthly time commitment after the training is completed.

Becoming a CASA volunteer means you are:
* at least 21 years old and willing to commit one year of your time
* willing to complete in-depth training, starting in October
* ability to communicate orally and in writing
* able to pass criminal and CPS background checks
* ability to maintain strict confidentiality on all cases

Becoming a CASA, volunteer may be the most challenging and rewarding experience you have had.
If you want to learn more about representing the needs of abused and neglected children in your community, please call Lynne at 505-820-1500, visit our web site: www.casafirst.org or schedule a time to come and visit with us and learn more.
We look forward to meeting you.

CASA, FJD is an Equal Employment Opportunity recruiter, and seeks to create a rich diverse pool of volunteers; minorities, monolingual Spanish speakers and individuals with exceptionalities are encouraged to apply.

The New Mexico Ombudsman Program is seeking volunteers to assist elders and individuals with disabilities living in New Mexico’s nursing and assisted living homes.

Ombudsmen are advocates and problem solvers for more than 12,000 long term care residents across New Mexico. Volunteers provide a voice for vulnerable adults who might otherwise go unheard. Ombudsmen assist these residents by advocating for their rights, investigating complaints and helping to resolve their concerns fairly, and ensuring they receive the care they deserve. There is a special need for volunteers throughout Northern New Mexico.

This volunteer opportunity has flexible hours and individuals set their own schedules. Volunteers are required to attend Associate level and Certification trainings, and pass an in-state background check.  Free training, on-going monthly in-service education and an annual statewide volunteer enrichment training are provided.
