We are continually reminded to shop small because it helps the community as a whole, right? Well the local business community proved that again this year. Rather than raking in all of the profits they would make during the surge of Shop Small publicity they put some aside for important work in the community. Many of the businesses who participated in Small Business Saturday designated a nonprofit to donate a percentage of their profits to. If you haven’t seen how shopping small impacts the community before, our small businesses just helped kick start 2016 for nonprofits. Here at United Way of Northern New Mexico we are especially thankful for Aspen Copies, CB Fox, Fusion Multisport, Los Alamos Historical Museum, Metzgers Do It Best, Nu2u Consignment, and Ruby K’s. They all contributed to the Community Action Fund. This fund is aimed at tackling the Community’s most critical needs. Here are some areas their generosity will make an immedate impact in the community: behavioral health, low income families, and foster children.
“UWNNM thanks all the Small Businesses for their generosity this holiday season! Working together to strengthen our small businesses and our non-profits makes for a strong community and a better life for all who live here. We are lucky to be a part of this!” Kristy Ortega, United Way of NNM Executive Director
